'Reacher' Spin-Off 'Neagley' Introduces Alan Ritchson's Narrative Replacement in Its Finale

A spin-off that breaks the Reacher formula

Reacher's first-ever spin-off, Neagley, arrived on Prime Video this month (the show's release date is listed as 16 September 2026) and marks a new era for the franchise. Instead of a drifter passing through town, Frances Neagley (Maria Sten) puts down roots in her hometown of Chicago and launches a private-investigation firm. Where Reacher resets his supporting cast every season by leaving, Neagley stays put, giving the spin-off a stability the flagship never had.

Neagley builds her own team

Per Collider, a signature part of every Reacher season is the hero assembling a tight-knit crew, and Neagley, long an integral member of Reacher's teams across the first three seasons, now builds her own. Her new agency recruits include Gerry York's former assistant Renee Birdwhistle (Adeline Rudolph) and street hustler-with-a-heart Keno (Jasper Jones), both central to bringing down Echo Canyon Farm. Detective Hudson Riley (Greyston Holt) proves a loyal partner too, saving Neagley's life after she is drugged in Episode 5, 'Trip.'

The narrative replacement for Reacher

Collider frames Riley as the character who steps into Jack Reacher's (Alan Ritchson) narrative role for the series going forward, an equal and a man of integrity, even if he is 'no Jack Reacher.' Just as importantly, his dynamic with Neagley opens a door the franchise has never walked through: a genuine romantic subplot for the character.

A first for the character

Neagley's earlier Reacher appearances established her haphephobia, a fear of being touched, and in Season 2 she told Karla Dixon (Serinda Swan) she was 'not attracted to anybody.' The spin-off reveals the phobia stems from a childhood trauma, witnessing her father kill a man, which kept her from ever having a meaningful romantic relationship. Collider notes this is a major development for the whole saga, since author Lee Child avoided divulging Neagley's backstory in the novels.

Will Neagley and Riley get together in Season 2?

The finale, 'Touched,' reveals Riley reciprocates Neagley's feelings, even asking if he can kiss her, but she is not ready, still processing her trauma. The season's final scene shows her meeting a therapist, a sign she is finally addressing the phobia. Collider argues Sten and Holt's chemistry raises the emotional stakes for a potential Season 2, and could finally give Reacher fans someone to root for romantically opposite Neagley, though (as one commenter on the source noted) not everyone wants a will-they-won't-they thread in the mix.
