'Avengers: Endgame Encore' Adds Four New Scenes to Set Up 'Doomsday'

Marvel re-releases Endgame with new footage

In the lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel has re-released 2019's Avengers: Endgame in theaters as 'Avengers: Endgame Encore,' a slightly longer cut with about four minutes of brand-new footage. As Variety reported, the additions fold in characters like Robert Downey Jr.'s villain Doctor Doom, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, and Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner, all shot during Doomsday production to bridge the two Avengers stories.

Loki knocks on Steve and Peggy's door

The first new scene takes place during Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter's dance at the close of Endgame. After Steve settles down in the past, they get a surprise knock from Loki, in his Time Variance Authority uniform, perhaps to discuss the unstable branch in the multiverse that Steve's time travel created.

The multiverse begins to collapse

A second scene returns to the TVA with Mobius (Owen Wilson), Casey (Eugene Cordero), Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), and Miss Minutes (Tara Strong). They notice two Earths about to collide in an incursion and begin firing on each other; more worlds start colliding and terminating, revealing that the entire multiverse is collapsing, possibly setting up Fox's X-Men universe crossing into the MCU, as teased for Doomsday.

Hulk vs. Doom, and a mirrored origin

A credits scene finds Bruce Banner in an underground bunker, after the events of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day,' working on a serum to suppress his transformations, when Doctor Doom breaks in and Bruce turns into the Hulk to face him (we do not see the outcome). The final scene revisits Endgame's closing metal-clanging sound, originally Tony Stark forging his armor, now reprised as Doctor Doom forges his mask, a dark twist hinting that Doom's and Iron Man's origins (both played by Downey Jr.) may mirror each other.

When Doomsday arrives

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, the same day as Dune: Part 3, a face-off some are already calling 'Dunesday.' With the new footage, advance teasers, and a year-long countdown, Marvel is betting Doomsday becomes another major hit in the wake of Spider-Man: Brand New Day's record-setting run.
